From the creator of "Amy's Recipes", "Cool Address Book" and "Scripture Memory" comes the program called "Font Image Library". The Font Image Library 3.3 helps you keep track of all your fonts. It identifies and loads all of the fonts installed in the system and shows exactly what each font looks like. Prints out great sample lists. It also stores a low resolution (screen) image of all your fonts so you can preview them even when they are not loaded. Font Image Library is an outstanding program for anyone who does any publishing, or who just likes to have all of his font information at his fingertips. It is shareware for only $5.
2.0 - Released without an icon. This version is faster and uses menus. Not all features have been added, but it faster, sleeker, better, cooler, and all around more Mac like than version 1.3.

How do I get the latest versions of your programs?
Visit my home page. There are FTP links to most of my programs.

I am getting the "error, failed to compact stack, disk is full" etc., what do I do?
Either the disk is locked or the program has become corrupted - perhaps due to a system crash. You will need to reinstall the program from the original back up.
.
I am getting the error - not enough memory to load printer font, what do I do?
There seems to be a bad version of the Font Image Library floating around out there. The program has been out for years and then in March of '96, I start getting reports of the error message - not enough memory to load painting tools. Version 3.3 is the latest version and I cannot reproduce this problem on any Mac I have tried. If you are having this problem please send me a detailed report of the following:
1) What kind of Mac are you using and how much memory does it have?
2) What version of the system software are you using?
3) Does the problem still occur when all extensions and control panels are disabled by holding down the shift key at start up?
4) What is the memory of the program set to?
5) What version of the Font Image Library are you using?
6) Where did you get your copy of the Font Image Library?
-
If you can answer these questions, I might be able to track down the problem. I would also like to have a copy of the Font Image Library you are using if you can send it to me in the mail.
.
If the program does not print a font correctly, what should I do?
Every time I have encountered this problem is was a font problem and not a Font Image Library problem. Fonts seemed to get damaged every once and a while. Here are some simple steps to perform to fix fonts that don't print out right.
* Trash the font from your system, reinstall it from the original source.
* Run the Font Image Library, trash the image that was previously stored.
* Update the library. Now print the font.
* Also, check to make sure you have the outline part of the font stored. Both postscript and true type fonts have bit map versions that will not print out very good by themselves. If you are using postscript type 1 fonts make sure you have ATM installed properly.
* If the font prints out just fine and dandy in your word processor, but not in the Font Image Library, trash the Font Image Library and reinstall from floppies. If this doesn't work, send me more e-mail.

How do I preview fonts that are not installed in my system?
Right now the Font Image Library can only add fonts to the libtrary that are listed in the Font menu when the Font Image Library is opened. Once images are added to the library, the images stay in the Library until you decide to remeove them. Let's say you load a couple hundred fonts into your system and then run the Font Image Library and update it. The 'Library now has images of all those fonts stored away safely. You decide you want to make some more space on your hard drive so you trash 65 of the fonts. You can still use the Font Image Library to preview the 65 fonts you no longer have loaded in your system. In the future, I may add the ability to add fonts to the library even if while they are not installed. I am not sure I am going to be able to get around to it. But if a lot of REGISTERED USERS (hint hint) seem to want this added feature, I might get inspired enough to set aside my other projects and work again on this one.
.
The program gives my an error message on launching and will not run.
1) Run Norton Utilities (or something similar) on your hard drive and try again.
.
2) Restart your system and hold down the shift key while the computer starts up. This will temporarily disable all your extensions. Try the program again. If the program works, you have an extension conflict. This means that either one of your non-apple extensions is being mean to my program or that one of any of your extensions is corrupted and needs to be replaced.
.
3) If none of this works the Font Image Library is probably corrupted. (Several things can cause this like a disk drive problem, or a system crash while the disk drive is spinning, shoving oatmeal in the disk drive slot, etc.) Trash da 'library and reinstall from your back up or original disks.
.
4) If none of this works and some of your other programs are acting screwy you might need to reinstall your system. Gee, I hope this is not it. If you are using the latest and the greatest system software that was just released about a week ago, it may mean that my program has not been tested on that system yet. Just keep this in mind.
.
Is there a limit to the number of fonts you can put in the library?
How much hard drive space have ya' got? There is no real limit, but when you start getting into the 10,000 you will probably see a performance lag. Ok ok, you will see a lag in the thousands too, but it has been done. Fantasia used the font image library to catalog their entire CD of fonts for the Mac. The cataloged a bunch o' fonts.
.
What other programs have you written?
Well, let me stick with the ones that I am not ashamed of...
Cool Address Book
Font Image Library
Amy's Recipes
Scripture Memory - soon to have a new name because someone else has one named this too
Five Dice
I have a bunch of projects underway including several major updates to the programs above. Some of my other projects include fun kids games, murder mystery party game creator, magicians database, service planner database for seeker churches, a contribution record keeping program for churches, and many other programs that may never be used by anyone but me.

How much money is too much to send you?
Don't send over 50 % of your salary for the year. I would feel guilty. You only have to send $5 to register the software, but every little bit helps - every big bit helps even more. :)
